Summer in the Valley of Huts

Großarltal offer three seperate fishing possibilities. The Erlensee Lake is not only ideal as a recreational location for young and old but also for sport and hobby fishermen. Those however, who prefer moving water can try their luck in the Großarler Aach.

Depending upon the location, populations can include char, brook trout, rainbow trout or grayling. At the end of the valley in Ötzl Lake, you'll find a special rarity, the alpine salmon - almost extinct and not found anyhere in Austira other than in Ötzl Lake.

Fishing licenses for all bodies of water can be obtained at the tourist offices in Großarl and Hüttschlag as well as in many hotels throughout the region.

Hiking

Visit the alpine dairy farmers: Relax in one of over 30 alpine cabins offering regional food and drink. Enjoy the traditional culinary specialties of the region while taking in breathtaking panoramic views of the mountains.

Over 220 km (136 miles) of marked trails lead you through the unique fauna and flora of the domestic mountain life. From relaxing strolls just outside of the town or cozy alp parties to high-altitude hiking up the mountains, there is something for everyone here.

Children's Programs

In summer, the Großarl and Hüttschlag tourism associations, in cooperation with the Großarltal Kid's Club, offer a wide variety of children's programs. Especially popular are Indian Day, the children's circus, the gondola ride up the mountain, bike tours and pony rides on the premises.

Sport & Recreation

The Großarltal offers an abundance of sport and recreational activities: 220 km (136 mile) of marked hiking trails, over 30 alpine cabins offering regional food and drink (usually open from the beginning of June through the beginning of October), heated outdoor swimming pools, mountain biking and cycling, the Großarl mountain railway, miniature golf, bavarian curling, tennis, fishing, Valley Museum, nature trails, Kneipp and hydro-therapy pools, tandem paragliding, guided mountain hiking and bike tours, hotel facities open to the public - swimming pools, sauna, solarium and steam baths.

Events

Relaxing village and folk evenings, sport and recreation programs, tours of the towns, movie and slide presentations about Großarl's history, children's festivals, Kid's Club Großarltal, riding the sightseeing train to the next town and watching the cattle and livestock come down from the mountain pastures in the fall.
